I started riding bikes when i was 8 or 9 on an old Yamaha RS125, i used to ride around the fields at the back of my parents house with bald road tyres, which was a nightmare in wet weather, but hours of fun was had.
I later had the sense to buy a Yamaha TY250 trials bike which had good tyres which improved things.
Even so i still ended up having a few scrapes and I still have scars to prove it!
When i was old enough i passed my driving test and bought a car.
It wasn't until years later that i got the itch to be on the road with a bike, so i passed my test and got my first bike.
The first bike i had was a Honda CBF125 which at the time was my only mode of transport, so it was used for work and getting A to B.
I bought a Honda CBR600 and it was only with this bike i started going away for the weekend and doing any sort of distance.
Because of the need to carry camping gear i eventually bought my current bike the BMW R1200 GS.
in September 2021 the wife and myself decided to do Scotland's NC500 with a friend over 7 days, and i'm not really sure why, but i decided to film it?
I bought a GoPro 9 and spent hours in the house finding a way to mount it on the helmet.
I decided to do a test run to Blackpool and test the mic and camera.
Once i was happy i set off for Scotland and filmed as much as i could.
Once home i realised how difficult it was to actually edit footage and make something worth watching.
In the end i gave up and stuck the camera and footage in a drawer and forgot about it.
In August 2022 my father died suddenly, he went for a routine colonoscopy and the hospital punctured his bowel and sent him home, he got severe sepsis and died.
My best mate had gone forever, he was my work partner and also the guy i spent most time with at football or at the pub.
I was a mess and didn't handle his death well at all, mentally i was going downhill and needed something to take my mind off thinking about dad all the time.
i found the old GoPro one day and decided to try editing again, something difficult would make me focus on something else.
It took a while to learn the ropes but once i had something i was kind of happy with, i told my friend i had done the Scotland videos.
He asked if he could see them and i then had the problem how to share them as he didn't have a computer.
I decided to upload them to YouTube in December 2022 so he could watch them on the TV.
Once he did he rang to say "Hey, a few hundred people have watched them too?"
To say i was shocked isn't the word, i didn't really think people would want to watch 2 strangers just riding around.
I never really intended on doing any more videos after the Scotland trip, but people watched and started asking when the next video is being uploaded, i didn't have any more!
With all this time at the computer, i started to feel life wasn't over without Dad after all.
The channel Moto Trip TV was born with my next video "S01E08 Riding & Camping alone with Covid"
I continue to learn new things and from mistakes i've made while filming.
My Fathers ashes are on my computer desk, it may seem morbid to some, but it's comforting to know he's here while i edit all these videos.
After all he's the real reason this channel exists.
